Introduction. General concepts. Summary of analysis procedure by a simple example. Truss analysis. Variational and weighted residual methods. General approach to structural analysis. Principal of minimum potential energy and virtual displacement methods. The shape functions. Parameter functions. Convergence requirements. C0 continuous shape functions. One, two and three dimensional elements. Stress analysis. Plane stress and plain strain. Beam and frame elements. Substructuring element rigidity and load matrices. 3D stress analysis.
