Course Description
The variational principle: Helium atom, the hydrogen molecule ion. The WKB approximation. The “classical” region, tunneling. Time dependent perturbation theory: Two-level systems, harmonic perturbation, spontaneous emission, adiabatic approximation, Berry phase. Scattering: partial wave analysis, phase shifts, Born approximation, two particle scattering. Introduction to relativistic quantum mechanics, Klein-Gordon equation. Dirac equation, electromagnetic interaction of the Dirac particle.
