Information
Music Theory and Composition (Master of Arts) program. The application requirements, quotas, application schedule, and other relevant information are provided below.
After reviewing the application announcement and the requirements, you must complete your application between April 24, 2026 09:00 - June 26, 2026 17:00 (UTC/GMT+3).
Applicants are responsible for ensuring that their applications are successfully completed within the application period.
Completed applications will be evaluated by the Registrar’s Office, and applicants will receive an email indicating whether their application has been accepted or rejected. The status can also be checked via the Application Form.
Applicants with approved applications cannot make changes to their preferences or submitted information.

Additional Requirements for Transfer
For transfer applications, applicants must have completed at least one semester in their current Master’s program and have a minimum graduate GPA of 3.00.
Sprecial Requirements for the Program
ALES is not required. Undergraduate GPA must be minimum 2.5/4 (65/100). Candidates must upload the following documents specified in the application requirements to the system: (1) Portfolio: A pdf file which includes the candidate´s curriculum vitae and an online link to the content of the portfolio containing the candidate´s works must be uploaded to the relevant field in the application interface. Portfolio content: For those working in the field of theory, theoretical academic studies and undergraduate graduation work; for those working in the field of composition, scores and recordings, if any, of at least three works in various instrumentation and undergraduate graduation thesis/project. The link must be active until the end of the interview period. (2) Two reference letters. (3) A letter of intent about the reason for applying to the programme and the subject they want to study. It is compulsory to participate in the interview, date and time to be announced. Candidates´ requests to take the exam other than the day and time announced will not be accepted.
Portfolio
Applicants are required to upload a portfolio during the application process. The portfolio must be in PDF format and no larger than 50 MB.

English Proficiency
English proficiency is not required for application. Students who are accepted to the program without a valid English language certificate can complete their final registration but cannot take any courses until they present a valid English language certificate. Students who will apply for transfer admission are required to upload a valid English language certificate during the application process.
Graduates of undergraduate programs at Istanbul Technical University, excluding the Turkish Music State Conservatory, who apply to a master’s program within no more than two semesters following their graduation date may, upon request, be exempt from the requirement to submit a foreign language proficiency certificate; such candidates may also benefit from the provisions of Article 33 upon request, and this preference must be declared to the Registrar’s Office at the time of final registration.
Valid English Language Scores
Graduates of undergraduate programs at Istanbul Technical University, excluding the Turkish Music State Conservatory, who apply to a master’s program within no more than two semesters following their graduation date may, upon request, be exempt from the requirement to submit a foreign language proficiency certificate; such candidates may also benefit from the provisions of Article 33 upon request, and this preference must be declared to the Registrar’s Office at the time of final registration.
